Let’s not get it twisted. There is religion and there are spiritual laws. To me, religion is a socialized attempt for a culture to understand what spiritual laws are.
Spiritual laws exist the same way gravity exists. The same way your mind exists. Many times in the past I have been hesitant to talk about spirituality because people automatically jump to the conclusion that I am a Christian. I am not a Christian. I understand that Jesus Christ was a prophet and a messenger that understood spirituality to the point that he could tell a guy at the pool in Bethesda to get up and walk in the man got up and walked. He could say “I will be back” and he came back from crucifixion. He also said, “all these things that I’m doing you can do and more,” because he was talking about the spiritual laws that exist for all of us that he had mastered.
And he was born into a culture that his followers were born into as the followers were born into as they wrote about all of the things that he did when he was on earth. Sometimes Christians will ask me, “do you believe that Jesus Christ came back after he died on the cross?” And I will say, “yes.” And they will sit back and say things like, “you don’t know this but you are a Christian.”
I don’t go to Jason’s (or similar) spiritual centers (see his Facebook post below) because I don’t feel a sense of belonging. They have a culture, of displaying wealth, which I don’t have. And, I am not a Christian. I am not part of that body of beliefs that the Emperor Constantine, who later became the first Pope, put together as a series of books that Christians hold to. He included some books and he left out some books because he had an agenda. Part of his agenda was keeping the Roman state intact as they had overreached their ability to govern all of those people that they had conquered. He used Christianity as a way of keeping the Roman state intact. I understand that the principles that Jesus spoke about were powerful because they were true, so they worked for a lot of people’s lives. But they work for a lot of people’s lives because he was talking about spiritual truths that govern our existence, or the universe.
